Initalize Security (Windows login)

If you must log into Windows with a username and password (for example, you have a password-protected screen-saver), use Initialize Security to provide PC2Me Server with the login information so that you can connect remotely with PC2Me.

Notes:

  • PC2Me Server revision: You must be using PC2Me Server revision 4.32.009 or higher. To check your revision, right-click the tiny PC2Me icon and select "About PC2Me".

  • Workgroups and Domains: PC2Me works with either Workgroups or Domains. However, if you sometimes connect to a Workgroup/Homegroup and sometimes to a Domain, you must reset Initialize Security when you switch from a Workgroup/Homegroup to a Domain, or from a Domain to a Workgroup/Homegroup.

To provide the login information:

  1. Open Windows Start, then All Programs, then 1stWorks Corporation, then PC2Me, then Initalize Security.

You may be prompted to allow f2psec.exe or p2msec.exe. Please grant permission.

  2. The Files2Phones/PC2Me Secure Desktop New Password Request dialog pops-up. It has two buttons. The top button is blue, next to a Windows username (note that this may not be the Windows username you usually use). The bottom button is blank, next to a blank username and blank password. See Screenshot A.

Note: Do NOT click the blank [bottom] button, and do NOT fill in the blank username/password on the bottom.

  3. Click the blue [top] button. See Screenshot A.

Note: The button might show "F2P" or it might show "P2M".

  4. Type in the password for this Windows user. See Screenshot B.

  5. Click OK.

Background note: Home networks usually have Workgroups/Homegroups. Corporate networks often use Domains. Vista and Windows 7 Professional, Business and Ultimate can connect to Domains or Workgroups/Homegroups. Windows XP (any level), Vista Home and Vista Home Premium can only connect to Workgroups. Windows 7 has Homegroups instead of Workgroups.
